Welcome to Verity Faith, the website dedicated to Vintage Accessories!
Clothing earlier than the 20′s can correctly be called antique but from the 20′s through the 1980′s are the Vintage styles so sought after for TV shows. Well known public names such as Julia Roberts and Kate Moss (among others) love this style.
On the popular series “Mad Men”, the female stars like January Jones wear the top styles of the late 50′s and 60′s. These clothes and accessories are beautifully made and designed and depict correctly the fashions of that era.
For instance-the tailored suits and the embellished hats and simple jewelry styles stir a nostalgic tone. The well-dressed woman of the era would not go shopping or travel without fine kid gloves, matching purse and shoes and hat and a shirt waist dress or suit.
A few of the newer prime time shows are date based in the 1960′s-1980′s. They try to depict how life was then in simpler times. Along with the story lines, the fashions of the era are melded into the situation.
The vintage clothes are used to make the shows more realistic and seem fresh to the viewers not of that era. The 1960′s takes in the baby boomers and seeing the clothing brings back fond memories of more elegant years.
As depicted on one TV series, airplane travel was a luxury and an EVENT. No torn blue jeans, flip-flops or casual styles but elegant suits and ties for the men and clothing for the women right off the fashion pages of the day.
It was not a crowding rush for a seat on the plane but a polite assignment of your place and sometimes even a stewardess would usher you to your seat and make sure you were comfortable. Perhaps the dressed-up passengers evoked that kind of treatment but it was something special just as the vintage clothes were and are.
It may seem unusual to a woman in her sixties to see these fashions popular again, because many have vintage clothing in their closets and still wear them. The simple slip dress or tent dress are coming around again for a new generation to appreciate. Also the elegantly and delicate undergarments-half slips with lace and full slips with attention to details not seen today.
The popularity of vintage clothing is evident by their availability either on line or in brick and mortar. The reasonable prices tempt one to purchase and have a little piece of history and days gone by.
For instance-during the JFK years women sought to imitate Jackie Kennedy’s simple but elegant way of dressing. Although not many people could afford to have her favorite designer-Oleg Cassini- they could copy the essence of the style with homemade clothing or ready made. Her suits, dresses and even her casual wear were something to be copied and they still are.
Simple pill-box hats, beautifully embellished flats, and two piece shirt and tops bespoke elegant, quiet beauty and unstated elegance. These styles are still available by shopping for vintage clothing.
We hope you enjoy the site and your everlasting vintage accessories!
